Description
“Gestures of Compassion” focuses on visual representations of figures that are considered embodiments or emanations of compassion within their religious tradition. Compassion is their primary characteristic or identity. They are both extensively represented in the art of their tradition, which shows them again and again demonstrating certain gestures representing compassion—especially relational compassion: inter- and intra-personal mercy, kindness, and love. The gestures form a highly meaningful language that is fun and easy to explore— both symbolically and through actual practice—by those within and without the tradition.
