Poetry and Storytelling as Pathways to Compassion

Description
This workshop will explore how poetry and storytelling link compassion and empathy with imagination, and consider how, as we listen to and write stories and poetry, we come to recognize the common ground of our shared humanity and begin to broaden our understandings of other perspectives and experiences. The workshop will focus on Poems of Holding Space, Compassion and Forgiveness, and on Creating a Poetics of Hope and Change. Participants will walk away from this workshop refreshed, inspired, and carrying a packet of poems, resources, and effective writing activities for broad use.
Presenter Bio
Merna Ann Hecht
Merna presents courses for teachers on integrating literary arts into social-justice teaching. A widely known poet and storyteller, she has many years of experience in schools, hospitals, and youth centers.
