Nurturing Compassion Through Spiritual Practices: East and West
Tuesday, April 15. 3:00pm - 4:30pm. Olympic Room.
Description
This workshop invites participants to learn about spiritual practices from the East and West that have nurtured compassion in those who practice them, with a particular focus on techniques that are effective with children. Participants will be invited to practice several meditation techniques, learn sacred chants, hear sacred stories and engage with other participants in exploring ways these practices can foster compassion in themselves and in the various communities to which they belong.
Presenter Bios
Valerie Lesniak
Valerie Lesniak is currently Associate Professor of Spirituality and Director of Formation at Seattle University’s Ecumenical School of Theology and Ministry, Seattle, Washington. She received her PhD in Spirituality from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California.
Jamal Rahman
Jamal Rahman is muslim Sufi Minister at Interfaith Community Church, co-host of Interfaith Talk Radio and adjunct faculty at Seattle University. He is author of The Fragrance of Faith: The Enlightened Heart of Islam. Jamal has a passion for interfaith work and believes that Interfaith is not about conversion but about completion.
