When we all suffer from time deprivation, it's the everyday actions that help kids learn to care. Researchers found that the single most important childhood factor in developing empathy is paternal involvement. Fathers who spend time alone with their kids performing routine care at least two times a week, raise children who are the most compassionate adults. Presenter Bio 

Bernie Dorsey, Parent Trust for Washington Children

Bernie Dorsey is the founder of the Conscious Fathering Program, which teaches prenatal and childhood involvement skills to thousands of fathers. Dorsey provides infant care skills for soon-to-be dads while stressing the benefits of responsible fathering. He has personally taught more than 7,000 fathers during the past nine years and his program is now available in a total of 32 locations in eleven states across the nation. In 2005, he was a co-creator of Washington’s “Keep Kids Safe” vehicle license plate which funds prevention and safety programs within the state. Dorsey has been a guest speaker at numerous statewide and national workshops on the topic of fathering and families. In 2002, he was the recipient of the Washington State Governor’s Award for Advocacy of Child Abuse Prevention and in 2004 received official commendation from the National Center for Fathering for his work to strengthen fathers and families. As the author of numerous articles on fathering and parenting, Dorsey shares insight on creating positive epidemics.
