Compassion in the Coast Salish Tradition

Description
Participants will learn the practice of compassion as it is taught and lived out in the Coast Salish Culture. At the heart of Salishan cultural teachings is the lifelong learning of the necessity of having a good mind and heart. Workshop participants will learn that it is possible to pass on these teachings to the young, even in a world where many cultures collide. Participants will hear the songs and teachings that have been fundamental to the Salishan world view for thousands of years. The deep spiritual vision and wisdom taught in this workshop is a rich resource for all peoples.
Presenter Bios
Darrell Hillaire
Darrell Hillaire is the past chairman of the Lummi Nation Tribal Council. Currently he is engaged in founding an Academy for Lummi Indian Youth.
Smitty and Luti Hillaire
Smitty and Luti Hillaire are highly respected Lummi Tribal Elders. They have been dedicated to teaching the young the highest cultural values of the Lummi People.
